Ostrich – The most record breaking bird

ostrichThe tallest and heaviest of all living birds discovered till now is perhaps the ostrich. Though it is quite bulky and not very comfortable with flying, Ostrich’s are excellent runners and can sprint at speeds up to 45 mph. They are very agile and endurance runners who can jog at 30 mph for almost 30 minutes.

Ostriches actually belong to a species of flightless birds called the ratites and are found in Africa. They can weigh up to 220 pounds and reach a height of 6 to 9 feet. This remarkable bird has various other noteworthy features quite different and unique from other birds. They hold the title of producing the largest egg by any living bird weighing almost 3 pound with a length of 6 inches and 5 inches in diameter. Another characteristic that sets them apart from other birds is that they have two toes on each foot whereas other birds have four toes.

They also have an amazing lifespan of almost 40 years.
