7 Dogs Stolen From Shelter, $1000 Reward On Return

Last week, seven dogs were found to be stolen from a Mount Vernon Animal Shelter. On Dec. 28 and 29, 2010, after there were two evident break-ins, 7 dogs were stolen, and out of the seven, five were of pit-bull mix breed. The volunteers of the shelter are quite worried and their main concern is that these dogs might have been stolen in order to use them as bait for a dog fighting ring.
Though five of the seven stolen dogs were of pit-bull mix breed, they all were not trained fighting dogs, instead of that they all were quite obedient. A pet rescue volunteer, Susan Matos said, “The dogs that are trained for fighting are trained by using dogs who don’t fight back.” One of the five pit-bull mix breed dogs, named “Dicey” was saved 5 years ago from a Bronx crack house and her abused past has left her anything but a fighting dog. Matos fears that “Dicey” might need to be saved yet again. Out of the seven stolen dogs one was a male named “Jack”, of the beagle breed.
Everyone at Mount Vernon Animal Shelter is inconsolable and worried about knowing the whereabouts of these dogs. Matos also said, “Needless to say, none of us can really rest easy until these dogs are found and they are really gentle, sweet souls.”
The volunteer group, Friends of the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter, has now offered a $1000 reward for the safe return of these lost pups.
